Ultimate Trans-Himalayan Motorcycle Adventure
This journey takes you from the Himalayan foothills deep into the high mountains, finishing in Leh after reaching the highest currently accessible motorable road in the world, Umling La (5,798 m). Riding through Himachal, Lahaul, Zanskar and Ladakh, the route steadily builds in altitude, scale and remoteness, crossing some of the most dramatic and rewarding passes in the Indian Himalaya.
Along the way, you’ll experience an extraordinary range of landscapes, from forested ridgelines and river valleys to stark high-altitude deserts, wide plateaus and remote border regions. Highlights include riding over Rohtang Pass, Shinkula, Penzi La, Namika La and Fotu La, camping beneath the striking monolith of Gonbo Rangjon, and crossing the vast Changthang Plateau en route to Hanle and Umling La.
Beyond the riding, this journey moves through some of northern India’s most culturally rich regions, shaped by Hindu, Punjabi, Tibetan and Buddhist traditions. You’ll visit ancient monasteries, follow historic trade routes, stay in small mountain communities and experience everyday life in places that remain largely untouched by mass tourism.
The motorcycle adventure officially concludes in Leh, giving you time to rest, reflect and celebrate the journey. For those who wish to continue, there is an optional extension to Kashmir, with time on the tranquil waters of Dal Lake, staying on heritage houseboats and exploring Srinagar’s gardens and culture.
This is not just a ride. It’s a carefully paced, deeply immersive Himalayan adventure that challenges, rewards and stays with you long after the engine cools.
"Safaris for the Soul have just given me another amazing experience, with their Heavenly Himalaya safari. This is my third trip with them. What can I say - WOW!
